Car of the Month

This month's featured car is owned by Ron Simonar of Wisconsin.  Ron purchased this In Violet Metallic (FC7) colored 1970 GTX with factory white bucket seat interior in 1985. It is one of only 328 painted that color in 1970.  It is one of 34 that are documented in the 1970 GTX registry.  When you put in the white bucket seats the number currently known with that combination drops to 4.  Ron had known the original owner, who had purchased the car new from a local dealership in Sturgeon Bay, WI.   The car had changed owners about nine times before finally finding a stable home in Ron's garage.

When Ron purchased the car it was missing the motor and transmission.  Also, the Wisconsin winters had been rough on the body so the vehicle had to be restored inside and out.  This included new paint, striping, headliner, seat covers, and lots of re-chroming to make it look like it does now.  A rebuilt 440 TNT motor from a 1970 Chrysler was put under the hood and a 727 automatic transmission from a 1970 Roadrunner was rebuilt and completed the drive train.  This is also one of a number of 70 GTX automatic only cars that came with the 22" HD radiator.

Options on this car included power assisted front drum brakes, console floor shift automatic, power steering, AM radio (now AM/FM), clock and tach, light package, and door edge mouldings.  The standard power bulge hood with the black hood performance paint was replaced with one that had the airgrabber fresh air system.
