This month's feature GTX is Chip and Alice Haines TX9 GTX with a *very rare EB5 interior.
Here is Chip's story. In 1970, after returning to the states from
a tour of Viet Nam hand leaving the Army, I purchased my 1970 Plymouth GTX from
Colonial Chrysler-Plymouth in Alexandria, Virginia. I ordered my GTX with black
(TX9) exterior and a blue (EB5) interior as well as the standard 440-4bbl carbureator
and column shift automatic tranmission.. My wife and I got married the same
year and she learned how to drive in the GTX. Back then in order to pass the
Virginia driver's test you had to parellel park, which was no easy task with
manual steering. The next year we brought our new born son home from the hospital
in the GTX. The car was used as our daily driver. About 7 years ago, we started
a ground up restoration of it. A lot of options were added at the time of the
restoration. To list a few- we added a Dana 60 rearend, 26" radiator, hood
mounted turn signals, power disk brakes, power steering, tinted glass, AM/FM
radio, driver's side remote mirror, Tic-tac-toc, Airgrabber hood, Pedal dress-up,
6 way driver's seat, rear window defogger, rear seat speaker, Deluxe seat belt
package, trunk light, power windows, performance hood paint, 15" Rallye
wheels, map light, wood grain steering wheel, and the center buddy seat.
*Registry note: Of the 39 TX9 painted 1970 GTXs in the 1970 GTX registry, Chip's car is the ONLY known one with a blue interior.
