Car of the Month

This month's featured 1970 GTX is owned by Dan Streeter of Canada. His GTX is painted the most popular color found on a 1970 GTX-EB5 blue fire metallic. It is one of only 350 4 speed 6bbl cars made in 1970. To back up the hemi 18 spline 4 speed manual transmission is the heavy duty Dana 60 with 4.10 gears.

Here is Dan's story about his beautifully restored car. This car was purchased for restoration in early 2003. The car was fairly rough and in pieces. It literally came in boxes when it was purchased. However, the big attraction to this particular GTX was that it was all original and all numbers matching. The total frame up restoration began in earnest in the summer of 2003, and at the beginning of May 2004, the completed project rolled out of the shop. The complete restoration is fully documented with photos and receipts as well as written text all carefully stored in a huge album. It should be noted that not a bit of bondo was used. All body work was done with lead, as it should be. Everything that needed replaced was. All new bolts, fasteners, rubber seals, everything was returned to new, no expense being spared. The motor was rebuilt to new, the carbs were redone, the transmission was rebuilt, the rear end, clutch, brakes, trime, everything was returned to new, better than new even. In 2011, the car received a new paint again, once ore in it's original beautiful blue fire metallic. This car was stored since its rebuild in a humidity and temperature controlled building. The gentleman that owned it also owns 19 other classics including 11 winged cars (7 Superbirds and 4 Daytonas), all beautifully restored. I had been looking for a car for several years, but it is hard to come by one that is numbers matching and documented. I went to his place originally to look at a 1969 Z28, but he showed me the GTX, and after hearing them oth run, I really wanted the GTX. I was sure my wife wouldn't allow me to spend that much. However, thankfully when I told her I would buy the Z28, she told me that I had always been a Mopar guy, so buy the one that I was going to be happy with. I went right back and bought the 1970 GTX. Being documented numbers matching, it was a little pricey, but I have no regrets about buying it. It is awesome. Rubber in all 4 gears puts a big smile on my face. The car came from the factory with the standard side stripes deleted with the code V88. I thought I would like the way the white side stripes set the car off so I ordered them and had them installed. I also put the "440+6" decals on the sides of the hood, too. I think with the decal sets it looks so much better than without. The car also has headers and 3" exhaust, but I have the original manifolds if I want to back to original. It also has Chrysler electionic ignition, but have the original dual point distributor if I want to put it back. I love the car just like it is.
